Responsibilities

<li>Direct oversight and responsibility for the daily and monthly cash reconciliations to the billing system and bank</li>

Qualifications

The responsibilities for the position include:

<li>Develop a complete understanding of all billing related contractual terms and conditions for assigned client projects. Monitor for contractual modifications that affect billings and payments. Develop billing schedules for all projects not billed monthly based on actual costs. Document billing details and idiosyncrasies in financial systems as appropriate.</li>
<li>Prepare and maintain project recap-of-cost analysis to assist with tracking of costs billed versus incurred (including final indirect rates) as well as to serve as the basis for the closeout process.</li>
<li>In a timely manner following each month end close or as otherwise assigned, prepare billing packages including all applicable backup, obtain appropriate approvals, and submit the packages to Project Directors and manager for review and approval, and then submit to clients.</li>
<li>Monitor cash receipts associated with billings, expedite all unpaid within contractual payment terms, document activity in financial systems as appropriate.</li>
<li>Research and document explanations for unbilled receivables for assigned projects; keep current on a monthly basis.</li>
<li>Establish project analysis and closeout file upon project inception, maintain throughout the life of the project, finalize upon completion of the project.</li>
<li>Review monthly Deltek CostPoint financial reports and project financial records for inconsistencies to ensure all expenses are allowable and billable and for the accuracy of project and account codes, initiate cost transfers as necessary.</li>
<li>Troubleshoot issues arising during the billing process, which may include client portal access issues, client information corrections, billing adjustments, proper application of cash, etc.</li>
<li>Demonstrates a high level of service delivery; ensures customer satisfaction and prioritizes customer needs.</li>

<h2>Qualifications</h2>
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

<li>Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Economics.</li>
<li>Minimun of 2 years of relevant work experience, including in a federal contractor environment working in the areas of billing, collections, or project cost control.</li>
<li>Experience working with automated, fully integrated billing and project accounting systems (preferably Deltek Costpoint).</li>

<li>Supervises coding section personnel in daily operational activities.</li>
<li>Directs the performance of inpatient coding and outpatient coding for the purpose of accurate patient billing.</li>
<li>Supports internal and external coding review and education.</li>
<li>Maintains and monitors performance indicators for unbilled coding accounts receivable and formulates action plans to reduce the number of outstanding cases.</li>
<li>Identifies all problem areas and areas of opportunity regarding unbilled accounts.</li>
<li>Monitors and maintains data on employee compliance with productivity and quality standards and takes appropriate action.</li>
<li>Interacts with downstream departments on Revenue Cycle Management, Liaison and ITD, regarding billing related questions and/or accounts receivable.</li>
<li>Management-level responsibilities include: hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, training, work distribution and flow, and employee engagement.</li>
<li>Administers corrective action for areas of responsibilities.</li>
<li>Develops and implements efficient systems and work flow to meet both CCF and government regulations.</li>
<li>Protects the confidentiality of patient information per HIPAA regulations.</li>
<li>May develop, implement, process and maintain clinical data computer systems.</li>
<li>May protect the interest of the Clinic with HIM vendors. Interacts with ITD in the support of systems and processes in the section.</li>
<li>Facilitates/trains coding staff on daily activities. Monitors and ensures time and attendance policy for the section.</li>
<li>Interacts with the Coding Quality and Education Supervisor to support Coding Quality and Education initiatives.</li>
<li>Interacts with the Supervisor of CDI to support the program initiatives and strategic planning goals.</li>
<li>Promotes good morale and cooperation: encourages others, values their input, shares information and seeks ways to add value both to the customer and to the team.</li>
<li>Anticipates and responds to changing skills requirements.</li>
<li>Seeks opportunities to learn new skills and actively coaches and encourages team members to do the same.</li>

<li>Integrates team into the coding process to promote their development.</li>

</ul>
Education:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor‘s Degree in Health Information Management or related field.</li>
<li>High School Diploma/GED and five years of coding experience, including three years in a lead role may substitute for degree requirements.</li>
<li>Associate’s degree and three years of coding experience, including one year in a lead role may substitute for degree requirement.</li>
</ul>
Certifications:
<ul>
<li>Depending on department needs the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is required and must be maintained.</li>
</ul>
Complexity of Work:
<ul>
<li>Coding assessment relevant to the work may be required.</li>
<li>Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.</li>
<li>Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.</li>
<li>Knowledge of medical record technology, statistics, and organization sufficient to identify and interpret clinical data, integrity of the data.</li>
<li>Knowledge of supervisory techniques and methods and ability to train others in abstracting techniques and methods.</li>
<li>Advanced knowledge of supervision, training/development, public relations and project management practices preferred.</li>
<li>Comfortable with public speaking.</li>
</ul>
Work Experience:
<ul>
<li>One year of coding experience in a lead role in a Professional Fee Coding environment required.</li>
</ul>
Physical Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.</li>
<li>Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.</li>
<li>Ability to work with physical records, such as retrieving and filing them.</li>
<li>Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.</li>
<li>In some locations, ability to move up to 25 lbs.</li>
</ul>
